Rachel Peterson Wins Medal In Math Contest

Rachel Peterson, an eighth-grade student at Gary Junior High School, received a gold medal in the statewide math competition held in Ellensburg, Wash., by placing first in Designing Pattern Blocks.

Rachel is the daughter of Dennis and Nina Peterson.

Mindy L. Argue, a 1996 graduate of Ferris High School in Spokane and daughter of Robert Spencer of Spokane and Elizabeth Weber of Sandpoint, has enlisted in the Army as an interrogator and recently departed for basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

Argue will attend the Defense Language Institute in California after basic training.

Argue has participated in track, cross country, drama, choir, orchestra, arts, Who’s Who Among American High School Students and received the Junior Miss Most Creative Performing Arts award, She has also volunteered more than 150 hours for International Peace Projects.

North Central High School graduate Rache Stotts-Johnson, has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship by Boule Foundation National Achievement Scholarship Program.

The privately financed program is conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation for academically talented Black Americans.

Stotts-Johnson plans to study chemical engineering.

Britton Boyd, a 1995 Ferris High School graduate, was named to the fall semester Dean’s List at the University of Montana. She is a sophomore and has a 4.0 grade point average.

Elizabeth Mann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mann, Spokane, was named to the Dean’s List for the fall term at Middlebury (Vt.) College.

The Dean’s List minimum grade point average is 3.3.

Theodore Davis, son of Harry Davis of Spokane, and Evelyn Baker of Vancouver, Wash., graduated from the warrant officer candidate school and was appointed as an Army warrant officer at Fort Rucker in Daleville, Ala.

Eleanora Jane Wilson was named to the President’s Honor Roll for fall semester at Washington State University. Wilson maintained a 3.84 grade point average while carrying 12 credit hours.

Patrick Wylie, son of Cam and Au Wylie, has graduated from the Army Airborne School in Fort Benning, Georgia.

He is now stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., where he is an airborne cook.

Wylie is a 1996 graduate of North Central High School.

The following Spokane students were named to the Dean’s List for fall semester at the University of Portland by maintaining at least a 3.5 grade-point average.

The students, their class year and majors are: Eleane Beadle, freshman, arts and sciences; Molly Bloom, sophomore, arts and sciences; Jeffrey Bolka, senior, arts and sciences; Anna Bozo, junior, business; Sean Brady, senior, arts and sciences; Ross Jonak, freshman, engineering; Elizabeth Riherd, junior, arts and sciences; Sarah Sprow, sophomore, arts and sciences; Jennifer Swinton, freshman, arts and sciences; and Nicole Thorn, junior, education.
