Several Local People Enlist, Leave For Duty

John E. Wilcox, son of Gibson and Cheryl Blankenship of Coeur d’Alene, has enlisted in the Army as a combat engineer and recently departed to be stationed in Korea.

John S. Brumley, son of John and Diane Brumley of Coeur d’Alene, recently enlisted in the Army as an infantryman and has now enrolled in the Concurrent Admissions Program (ConAP), a joint program of the Army and Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges.

Brumley, who recently departed for basic training, will participate in the Army College Fund and is eligible for up to $20,000 toward tuition.

Brumley has pre-confirmed his admission to Western Montana College in Dillon, Mont., and recently departed for basic training.

Benjamin I. Cushman, a 1994 Lakeland High School graduate and son of Bruce and Patti Jo Cushman of Rathdrum, Idaho, has enlisted in the Army’s delayed entry program as an infantryman. He recently departed for basic training at Fort Benning, Ga.

Mindy L. Argue, a 1996 graduate of Ferris High School in Spokane and daughter of Robert Spencer of Spokane and Elizabeth Weber of Sandpoint, has enlisted in the Army as an interrogator and recently departed for basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

Argue will attend the Defense Language Institute in California after basic training.

Argue has participated in track, cross country, drama, choir, orchestra, arts, Who’s Who Among American High School Students and received the Junior Miss Most Creative Performing Arts award, She has also volunteered more than 150 hours for International Peace Projects.

Gary D. Dickson, son of Cathy and Rodney Thompson of Sagle, Idaho, has enlisted in the Army as a Petroleum Supply Specialist and recently departed for basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

Dickson, a 1995 graduate of Sandpoint High School, qualifies for up to $20,000 under the Army college fund program based on his test scores and enlistment choice.

He had participated in varsity soccer, football and intramural boxing in high school.
