Mead’s Thomas Out For Year

Mead baseball player Evan Thomas, hit in the right temple by a line drive while pitching Tuesday, will miss the rest of the season but could leave Deaconess Medical Center as early as today.

Doctors have advised Thomas, a senior pitcher/utility player who served as the Panthers captain, to abstain from contact sports for one year, his mother, Misty Thomas, said Thursday.

Misty Thomas called the injury a “brain bruise.”

A third-inning liner by Central Valley’s Ben Miller knocked down Thomas, who was working on a Greater Spokane League shutout at Seafirst Stadium when the incident occurred.

Thomas bled from his ear and had trouble with his memory after the injury happened. He didn’t eat until Thursday, but may leave the hospital today. Thomas will miss another week of school.

“We’ve had the prayers and support of a lot of friends, and that has made all the difference,” Misty Thomas said.

“The kids have put ‘E.T.’ on their hats and shoes,” said Mead coach Dave Vaughn. “He’ll be our motivation.”
