Man Reports Robbery In Downtown Tavern

From Staff And Wire Reports

A man told police he was robbed Thursday afternoon at the Lamp Post Tavern downtown by a man with a screwdriver.

The 51-year-old victim said the man asked him if he wanted to buy some six packs of beer and drink them near the railroad tracks, said police spokesman Dick Cottam.

The victim said he wasn’t interested and the other man left, only to return a short time later brandishing the screwdriver.

The robber told the victim he was going to stab him unless he gave him money, Cottam said. After getting some money, the robber left the tavern at 408 W. Sprague.

The suspect was described as a black male in his late 40s, about 6-foot and 180 to 200 pounds, with gray, short-cropped hair, Cottam said.

Anyone with information about the robber is asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
