Toyota Hands Out Money To Boost Cavalier Sales

Associated Press

Toyota Motor Corp. has launched a special sales campaign that includes giving money to some buyers of GM’s Cavalier, which the company sells in Japan on behalf of General Motors Corp.

Toyota will give 100 buyers of the Cavalier 1 million yen ($8,000) each, which effectively lets them buy the cars at roughly half the ticket price of 2 million yen, officials said.

The company said it has received 36,000 applicants for the cash-back plan. Winners will be chosen in a mid-May lottery.

Toyota sold only 1,700 Cavaliers between January and March. It sold 12,000 in 1996.
