A Host Who’s Not Nosy: What A Model Concept

Compiled By Staff Writer Dan Web

As a trial run for her proposed new career, supermodel Cindy Crawford will interview “Tonight” host Jay Leno.

And if her initial reaction is any indication of what her interviewing style will end up being, Crawford might truly be a perfect substitute host for Larry King, as has been speculated.

For example, TV Guide asked Crawford what advice she’s been given in preparation for her interview with Leno on NBC’s “Later” in May.

“They say, ‘Ask Jay why they (he and wife Mavis) don’t have kids,”’ Crawford said. “Well, I would NEVER ask somebody that. It’s really none of my business.”

As for the job itself, Crawford is better prepared than she was for her big-screen movie venture, “Fair Game.” “I’m totally intimidated,” she said, “but I don’t want to not do things because I’m afraid of failing.”

Loose talk

Ex-Prince on his new name (in Interview magazine): “You know, black people still call me Prince. Sometimes I ask them, ‘Why do you call me Prince?’ And people say ‘Because you are a prince to us.’ If there is a pronunciation to my name in the future, I hope it will be ‘Prince.’ That’s my dream.”

Trivia question: Who was Jack Ritter’s other roommate?

This is one reason why they CAN call it ‘Must See TV’

Negotiations are ongoing but some industry insiders insist that “Seinfeld” will return for another season. The stumbling block apparently is the demand by Jerry Seinfeld’s co-stars - Jason Alexander, Julia LouisDreyfuss and Michael Richards - to be paid $1 million each per episode. “I don’t think NBC can afford to lose the show,” said one TV executive.

Next up: How about Rosie O’Donnell as ‘Nancy’?

The Disney company is filming an adaptation of the cartoon “Mr. Magoo” in Vancouver, British Columbia. Leslie Nielsen plays the title character, who in one scene rides an ironing board down a snowy slope.

They did well on Monday but then died the rest of the week

What with all the publicity it got, it’s surprising that Michael’s Pub has closed. For 25 years, Woody Allen played clarinet at the Manhattan eatery on Mondays. Allen has moved to Cafe Carlyle, where he will play for “as long as it feels good,” his spokeswoman, Leslee Dart, told USA Today.

And then he joined his pals on Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

Filmmaker John Waters won’t be directing a remake of “Lassie” anytime soon. “I don’t dislike animals, but I don’t have a problem if they test medicines or even cosmetics on them,” he told the New York Times. “Eyeliner has been important in my life. If 10 chickens have to die to make one drag queen happier, so be it.”

Yeah, it was next to his shoe on the sidewalk

Mad about a Premiere magazine story on his biological father, Quentin Tarantino confronted MTV reporter and former Premiere editor Chris Connelly at the Oscars - and spit at him. A Tarantino spokesman told People magazine that the filmmaker “stands by what he did.”
