Pelluer Draws 350 Athletes

The area’s largest college track and field meet takes place in Cheney today when Eastern Washington University holds the 25th annual Pelluer Invitational at Woodward Stadium.

More than 350 athletes will compete, with representatives of nine colleges and universities joining many unattached competitors. Field events begin at 1:30 p.m., with running events scheduled to start at 4.

EWU sprinter and high jumper Seville Broussard and Idaho thrower Jill Wimer lead the women. Idaho javelin thrower Oscar Duncan and long jumper Niels Kruller are among the featured men.

Eastern’s Andre Ervin and Idaho’s Geoff Judd will try to become the first area high jumpers to clear 7 feet since the outdoor season began.

Idaho steeplechaser Frank Bruder, the area’s only NCAA automatic qualifier, is entered in the 400 hurdles, the 1,500 and the 4x400 relay.

Several other stars are competing elsewhere or taking this week off. WSU sent 13 athletes to the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, including thrower Ian Waltz and its recordsetting women’s sprint contingent.

Rain washes out GSL

The Greater Spokane League finished 0-8 against the weather Thursday.

Persistent rain postponed four GSL baseball and four GSL softball games.

Three of the baseball games, Mead at North Central, Shadle Park at Rogers, and Central Valley vs. Lewis and Clark at Hart Field, were moved to 11 a.m. Saturday. The University-Gonzaga Prep game, originally scheduled at Seafirst Stadium, was moved to G-Prep at 3:45 p.m. Monday.

All softball games were rescheduled for 3:45 p.m. Monday. The matchups are the same as baseball.

A full slate of GSL baseball and softball games is scheduled today.
