UW Facilities To Get $52 Million Overhaul

Associated Press

The University of Washington is set to begin a $52 million overhaul of sports facilities designed to give it one of the top complexes in the Pacific-10 Conference.

The central project, costing about $35 million, will be an overhaul of Hec Edmundson Pavilion - removing pillars that block views of the basketball court and increasing seating from 7,900 to about 10,000.

Funding will come from sources such as alumni contributions, corporate sponsors and the athletic department’s surplus generated by football. Some money also might be available from the university’s capital budget.

One project not included in the plans is an expansion of Husky Stadium.
