Brown May Go To Celtics San Antonio’s Former Coach Also Interviews For Boston Job

From Wire Reports

Indiana Pacers coach Larry Brown is reportedly meeting with Boston Celtics owner Paul Gaston next week to discuss replacing M.L. Carr as coach.

The Boston Globe reported Friday that the two will meet in Boston. The Indianapolis Star said they would meet in the Los Angeles area.

Celtics spokesman Jeffrey Twiss said he hasn’t been given the official word if there is to be a meeting.

“If and when there is something to announce, he (Gaston) will address it,” Twiss said.

In addition to Brown, former San Antonio Spurs coach Bob Hill confirmed Friday he had spoken to Larry Bird about the job.

Hill was fired early this season as the David Robinson-less Spurs struggled out of the blocks. In the previous two seasons, with a healthy Robinson, the Spurs won the Midwest Division title, winning 62 and 59 games, respectively.

Hill also coached Indiana for two-plus seasons, leading them to the playoffs all three years, He was in New York at the end of the 1986-87 season, after Hubie Brown was fired.

Carr is expected to give up the job he held the past two seasons after Boston (15-67) posted the worst record in its history. His position as director of basketball operations also appears in jeopardy.
