E. Valley Sweeps First-Place Cheney

Frontier League

Brian Lamarche and Kris Allen created a much more interesting Frontier League baseball race Friday.

Lamarche and Allen limited host Cheney (10-2) to 11 hits during a 14-5, 4-0 sweep. Third-place EV (8-6) trimmed Cheney’s lead over Colville (5-3) to three games.

Lamarche hit a three-run homer in the opener.

Jeremy Isherwood’s seven RBIs guided the visiting Eagles (6-6) to a sweep of the Rams (1-11) at Chattaroy.

WV’s Beau McCarty added four RBIs in the second game. The Eagles’ Tyler Hall and Jason Phillipe pitched four-hitters.

Tarrah Brown slowed down the first-place Eagles (9-2), pitching her eighth career no-hitter and adding a two-hitter as the host Indians (8-2) avenged a 2-0 season-opening loss.

Brown struck out 18 for the day. WV had outscored league rivals 120-5.

Ellen Shaw doubled and scored on Carissa True’s single in the opener, then singled in the winner in the second game.

The visiting Blackhawks (9-1-0, 27 points) scored the final three goals, two against a second-string goalkeeper, to beat third-place R/DP (6-3-1, 19).

Ryan Waller’s second goal, with 5 minutes left, was the winner. R/DP’s No. 1 goalie, Jeremy Nelson, had left with a bloody nose.

Cheney’s Nick Reynolds scored his 20th goal of the year. R/DP’s Ryan Baker scored his 15th and 16th.
