Tom Kite, who hasn’t won on the PGA Tour since 1993, birdied three of his final five holes of the Greater Greensboro (N.C.) Chrysler Classic for a 4-under-par 68 and a 9-under 135.
Mike Hulbert, one of Thursday’s co-leaders, birdied his last three holes and four of his last six to shoot a 69 and forge a tie with Kite at 135.
Former Pullman resident Kirk Triplett is tied for second with Mike Standly at 8-under 136. Triplett followed his first-round 67 with a 69.
Mark James of England fired a 4-under-par 68 and took a two-stroke lead in the Spanish Open at Madrid with a two-round total of 135.
Tied for second place were Englishmen Roger Chapman, with a 67, and Lee Westwood, who shot 68, and Thomas Bjorn of Denmark, who fired a 69 on the 7,054-yard Moraleja golf course.
