U-Hi Ace Gets Shutout

The second half of the Greater Spokane League softball season began Friday with a continuation of the trend established during the first half.

Cheryl Andrizzi struck out eight and walked none as U-Hi (9-0) topped visiting Ferris 3-0. Andrizzi, also 9-0, notched her fifth shutout.

Nicki Meyer had a run-scoring double in the fourth inning for the Titans. Kim Domonouski of the Saxons (4-5) went 2 for 3.

Erin Rice pitched a five-hitter and Kelly Durgan cleared the bases with a fourth-inning double as the Highlanders (5-4) edged the visiting Tigers (2-7) and moved up one spot to fifth place.

Suzanne Winkler doubled for LC.

Tori Mills pitched a three-hitter, struck out nine and drove in two runs to lead the Bears (6-3) over the visiting Indians (0-9).

Jen Shields added two RBIs for the Bears, who remained tied for second place with Mead.

Shanelle Test pitched a two-hitter and struck out seven, and Janessa Karstens hit a two-run homer in the third to guide the Panthers (6-3) over G-Prep (3-6).

Holly Turner added a two-run double and Katrina Morton went 3 for 4 for Mead.

Mead and CV moved one-half game ahead of idle Rogers (5-3).
