Bruce Carrick Receives Bronze Service Award

Bruce Carrick, a retired Spokane city librarian, was recently cited with a bronze service award medal from the Photographic Society of America for 43 years of continuous membership and outstanding service. He was also honored with a card shower on his 90th birthday.

Carrick helped organize the photo society’s Inland Empire Chapter in 1969 and served as its first chairman. He also served as its zone director for the Pacific Northwest, helping coordinate activities such as conventions and photo seminars.

Daniel Chacon, Spokane Community College’s vice president of student services, has been appointed to the board of directors of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators.

Chacon has worked at SCC since 1991 and is responsible for the college’s admissions, registration, and financial aid services, disabled, multicultural and international student services, student government and career center activities.

Sarah Stucky has been named to the Dean’s List of Macalester College, St. Paul, Minn., for fall semester.

To be included in the Deans List, students must maintain a gradepoint average of 3.70 or higher.

Stucky, a graduate of Gonzaga Preparatory, is a sophomore at Macalester. She is the daughter of Mary and Craig Stucky.

Julie Hendricks has been elected as Employee of the Year by Riverview Care Center. She is the secretary/receptionist at the nursing home section.

Hendricks also serves as a church council member, teacher and originator of the Sunday school program for physically and developmentally challenged adults at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Mary Porter, science teacher at Rogers High School, was recently honored by the Daughters of the American Revolution for her outstanding efforts in environmental conservation and education. She is responsible for several projects involving the Spokane-area environment and is a public speaker for environmental issues.

The following students from Cub Scout Pack No. 345 at Hamblen Elementary have been decorated with the Arrow of Light, Cub Scoutings highest award.

Scouts must earn their Webelos Badge and at least eight activity badges, including citizen, readyman and fitness.

The Scouts are: Matthew Tansy, Ben Steinhilber, Eric Olson, Chris Wilkening, Brian Polillo, Daniel Lemke, Josh Kanzelmeyer and David Yake.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Robert Shaw has graduated from the satellite and wideband communications equipment apprentice course at Keesler Air Force Base at Biloxi, Miss.

Shaw, son of Betty Shaw, Spokane, is a 1995 graduate of North Central High School.
