A bus carrying pilgrims to a religious shrine flipped over on a highway outside Mexico City early Sunday, killing at least seven people and injuring 36, the government news agency said.
Notimex reported that the bus was traveling at a high speed when it overturned near Cuernavaca, about 35 miles south of Mexico City. The bus driver fled the scene in a taxi and remains at large.
The passengers were traveling from Puebla state to a shrine in Morelos state. The shrine honors the Christ of Chalma, an image of Jesus Christ said to perform miracles.
