Earhart Emulator Past Halfway Point

Indians offered marigolds and roses Sunday to pilot Linda Finch, who stopped in Calcutta on her bid to complete the round-the-world flight of Amelia Earhart.

Finch brought her restored 1935 Lockheed Electra 10-E down at Calcutta’s Dum Dum Airport.

Finch, her co-pilot and passengers on a companion plane have covered 14,298 nautical miles and have 12,517 to go. In terms of days elapsed, the crew has completed about 60 percent of the trip - if Finch returns to Oakland, Calif., on May 26 as planned.

Finch, 46, started her trip March 17 at the same Oakland hangar from which Earhart left.
