Grass Fire Destroys Buildings, But Home’s Residents Escape

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 2-acre grass fire consumed a garage and small shed in Corkscrew Canyon on Saturday morning, but was contained just as it started to lick at a residence.

The fire, in the 56000 block of Corkscrew Canyon Road in Stevens County, began about 10 a.m. and took about two hours to extinguish, according to a Stevens County Fire District 1 dispatcher.

Residents of the threatened house were home at the time of the fire. The cause of the blaze has not been determined.

A Washington Department of Natural Resources air tanker filled with water helped save the home, the dispatcher said.
