Valley Fire Station Evacuated, Roads Closed In Dynamite Scare

From Staff And Wire Reports

A dynamite scare in the Spokane Valley closed parts of Harvard Road and the Centennial Trail for several hours Saturday.

A Liberty Lake man in his 70s arrived just after 8 a.m. at Fire Station 3 on Harvard Road with five sticks of dynamite and blasting caps in his pickup.

The man, whose name was not disclosed, told fire officials he found the items while cleaning his garage, said the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department.

The dynamite sticks were old and unstable, a sheriff’s report said. Officials evacuated the fire station and contacted the sheriff’s explosive unit.

A robot was used to remove the dynamite from the truck and dispose of it
