Daisy Fuentes New Host Of ‘Funniest Home Videos’

Model and MTV host Daisy Fuentes is adding “America’s Funniest Home Videos” to her resume.

Thursday, ABC said Fuentes will take over as host of the popular program when it returns midway through the 1997-98 television season.

She replaces Bob Saget, who hosted the show from its launch in 1990 to the end of last season.

In June, Saget released a statement saying he’d done the show for eight years and enjoyed doing it. But, he added, “That’s millions of people getting hit in the groin. It was really time for both parties to move on.”

Aside from adding Fuentes, “America’s Funniest Home Videos” will get an overall makeover. The show will have a new set and will be expanded to an hour from its current half-hour format.

Fuentes is currently the host of MTV’s monthly “House of Style” and a spokeswoman/model for Revlon. Thursday, an MTV spokeswoman said that Fuentes will remain on “House of Style.”

‘Magnificent Seven’ a TV series

Some “Magnificent” news for Western fans. CBS has lassoed a new oater - once a TV staple but now a rarity - for next season.

The Eye Network has ordered six one-hour episodes and a two-hour movie based on the 1960 big-screen film “The Magnificent Seven.”

Ron Perlman (the beast in “Beauty and The Beast”) and Michael Biehn (“Terminator”) lead the cast.

“The Magnificent Seven” revolves around seven gunslingers who band together to fight for those unable to fight for themselves.

The original film, with its memorable Elmer Bernstein score, starred Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Eli Wallach, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Robert Vaughn and Horst Buchholz. A CBS spokesman said the network hopes to use the famous music in the series, but hasn’t finalized arrangements.
