Anderson Declines Position

Five months after resigning as head football coach at Coeur d’Alene High School, Bill Anderson turned down an offer to be head coach at Bonners Ferry.

Anderson interviewed for the head coaching position and a teaching position two weeks ago. But Sunday he called new Bonners Ferry principal Terry Sherven and declined the jobs.

Anderson resigned at CdA after two seasons because of health reasons and doctors’ orders.

“The doctors just gave me a release to coach again recently,” Anderson said. “(The Bonners Ferry job) just turned out to be the wrong time. It wouldn’t work out.”

Anderson said his wife is employed at CdA High and it wouldn’t be right for her to resign this late in the summer. Additionally, Anderson said he’d probably have to commute to Bonners Ferry at least until the spring when he could sell his home.

The Bonners Ferry job came open last month when Ted Reynolds resigned after one season. Among his reasons for quitting were the loss of defensive coordinator Tim Kiefer to Lewiston. However, Reynolds is now considering returning.

In other coaching news, Bonners Ferry girls basketball head coach Jim Nash will return.

Nash, who also served as athletic director, had considered moving after his duties as A.D. were taken away through cutbacks. But he was recently rehired as assistant A.D. He will work with newly hired vice principal Walt Piippo.

Lewiston coach Nick Menegas is excited about the addition of Kiefer to his staff. Kiefer will coach defensive backs and running backs at Lewiston. Linebackers coach Shawn Nilsson will assume the defensive coordinator job.

Menegas must fill one more varsity position after his longtime defensive coordinator, Bruce Scholz, opted to coach at the junior high to be around his children more.
