Cooper, Comets End Rockers’ Win Streak

Cynthia Cooper, the leading scorer in the WNBA, had 30 points Tuesday night as the Houston Comets snapped Cleveland’s eight-game winning streak with a 76-66 victory over the homestanding Rockers.

Cooper was 8 of 13 from the field, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range, and made all but one of 11 free throws. She also had a team-high six assists, four rebounds and three steals.

Cooper, who entered the game with a 21.3 scoring average, is the only player in the league averaging more than 20 points per game.

Janeth Arcain had 14 points for Houston (12-7). Tina Thompson had 12.

Michelle Edwards led the Rockers (11-9) with 17 points and seven assists. Janice Braxton had 14 points and six rebounds.

Cooper, who has scored 30 or more points five times this season, had 20 points in the second half.

Sparks 67, Liberty 50 At New York

Tamecka Dixon scored 16 points - 12 in the second half - to lead Los Angeles to an upset victory.

Dixon scored 10 of the Sparks’ first 14 points in the second half to give Los Angeles a 48-35 lead.

New York entered the game with the league’s best record at 15-4, including an 8-2 home mark.

Penny Toler had 16 points and Lisa Leslie finished with a game-high 14 rebounds for Los Angeles.
