Director Of Ywca Women’s Shelter Moving On

From Staff And Wire Reports

The executive director of Spokane’s shelter for battered women resigned Tuesday to launch her own consulting firm.

Carolyn Morrison ran the YWCA’s Alternatives to Domestic Violence for four years. She hopes to continue her advocacy for battered women as a consultant and an expert witness in criminal trials.

“I feel like I accomplished just about everything I wanted to accomplish,” she said. “This is my opportunity to do something new and constructive.”

During her stint at the YWCA, Morrison helped raise awareness of domestic violence against women. Calls to the YWCA’s domestic violence crisis hotline doubled. Spokane County recently created a special division that prosecutes abusers.

The parting was friendly, said YWCA director Monica Walters, who praised Morrison’s leadership.

Morrison will leave by Friday. Walters will act as interim director while she considers Morrison’s replacement. , DataTimes
