Something For Everyone At Summer Block Party

Lidgerwood Evangelical Church, Grace Harvest Fellowship, and the Neva-Wood COPS Shop are teaming up to host the Lidgerwood Summer Celebration block party on Saturday. The free event will run from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Evangelical Church, 228 E. Gordon Ave.

There will be something for everyone at the event, which will feature carnival games, train rides, clowns, face painting, a bicycle rodeo and a dunk tank. Free ice cream, cotton candy, and popcorn will be available. Party attendees are welcome to purchase food from the concession stands or bring their own. Concerts and puppet shows will run throughout the day.

McGruff the Dog will make an appearance, along with cars, trucks, and motorcycles from the Spokane Police Department, the Spokane Fire Department, and the Washington State Patrol.

Several community service organizations will have information booths and free give-aways. Participating groups include Alternatives to Domestic Violence, Block Watch, Holy Family Hospital, Meals on Wheels, the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, and World Relief.

Free door prizes will be given away throughout the day, including tickets to Silverwood Theme Park and Splashdown Water Slides.

Bible school classes

Audubon Park United Methodist Church, 3908 N. Driscoll Blvd., will host adult Bible school classes Aug. 18-20. The classes will use two video series titled “Spiritual Home Page” and “Loving Better Through Laughter.”

Classes will run from 6:45 to 8 p.m. Infant child care will be available and activities are planned for grade school children. Teens are invited to join the adults in the classes. The evenings will begin with dinner at 6 p.m.

Advance registration is requested for the free classes. To register or for more information, call the church office at 325-4541.

Hillyard Baptist Church, 2121 E. Wabash, will host a weeklong “Jesus Expedition” to far off lands as part of its vacation Bible school Aug. 18-22. The classes are open to all children in preschool through the fifth grade. The children will learn about the Bible as they “travel” to South America, Mount Everest, the jungle and other exciting places.

The children will also perform skits, play games, make crafts and sing songs. Classes will run from 1 to 3:15 p.m. daily. No advance registration is required for the free classes.
