Subud Musicians Join Symphony For Concert

The Spokane Symphony, Symphony Chorale singers and musicians from Subud will perform new and standard works from the symphonic and choral repertoire Tuesday in concert at the Opera House.

The concert is a part of the 10th Subud World Congress taking place in Spokane with more than 3,000 participants from 80 countries. In addition to meetings and workshops usually associated with international conventions, Subud is sponsoring a series of arts and cultural events that includes art shows, film, theater, architecture and concerts.

Tuesday’s concert includes the premieres of works by Lucas Richman, Simon Lesley and Ramon Roper along with familiar works by Haydn, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and Ravel. Composer-conductor Lucas Richman will lead the performance. Soloists include violinist Ian Mardon, cellist Hamilton Cheifetz and pianist Felipe Aguirre.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit three local organizations: the Spokane Symphony’s Educational Outreach Program, the Martin Luther King Jr. Family Outreach Program and the American Indian Community Center.

The concert begins at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Opera House. Tickets are available at the door or by calling 328-9703; suggested donation $15.
