Ex-Sox Pitcher Spares Manager His Wrath

Chicago Tribune

Roberto Hernandez didn’t have many nice things to say about the White Sox organization after being traded to San Francisco last week along with fellow pitchers Wilson Alvarez and Danny Darwin.

But one person who escaped Hernandez’s wrath was Sox manager Terry Bevington, whom Alvarez had criticized for “laughing” while telling the players about the trade.

Asked if Bevington is one of the reasons the White Sox are under-achieving this season, Hernandez replied: “He has done better than what I expected with the people he has. When Robin (Ventura) went down, everybody thought (management would) go for someone else, but they never went out and got anybody. It’s really a tough job to do when one of your guns is down, and especially when your defense is not what you want it to be.”

Hernandez said Bevington is the right manager for the team if it decides to rebuild.
