Salmon In Idaho

Idaho Fish And Game

Fishing

Idaho Fish and Game biologists estimate that Idaho anglers have harvested about 3,300 chinook salmon from this year’s extraordinary run of hatchery fish.

Almost 18,500 chinook had been counted at hatchery weirs through July 23. The relatively large salmon run resulted from a historic high runoff in the spring of 1995, according to the department.

Juvenile salmon had a fast ride to the Pacific. They also survived in far greater numbers than in years when there was not enough water to push them through the series of slackwater reservoirs on the Lower Snake and Columbia rivers.
