Medical Lake Man Arrested In Rape Of 10-Year-Old Girl

A Medical Lake man is in jail, accused of raping a 10-year-old neighbor girl several times earlier this year while her brother watched television or played games in the next room.

George D. Bartz, 52, is charged with one count of first-degree rape of a child. He is being held in the Spokane County Jail on $50,000 bond.

Detectives arrested Bartz on Friday. They say he sexually abused the girl for more than a month this spring.

The victim told investigators she and her brother would go inside Bartz’s house after doing yard work for him.

Once inside, Bartz would allow the boy to watch television or play computer games while he took the victim into another room and abused her, court documents say.

The victim’s brother told detectives he once tried to see what was going on, but Bartz caught him and told him to leave the room.

The girl’s relatives became suspicious when the victim began “to act strange,” and they confronted Bartz in mid-June, court documents state.

Bartz, who has no felony record in Washington, did not confess to abusing the girl.

He did tell the victim’s mother that every couple of years he gets urges to have sex with children, and that he had abused two other 10-year-old girls and raped a 16-year-old girl, the affidavit states.

The woman said Bartz asked her not to call police or get counseling for the victim because he did not want to go to jail.
