Pair Steal Lawn Mower From Garage

Janice Podsada Staff writer

Witnesses reported seeing two white males in an older-model cream-colored pickup drive off with a Craftsman lawn mower from an unlocked garage in the 5600 block of South Pittsburg.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene about 9 a.m. last Thursday. The mower is valued at $400, deputies said.

Day care burglarized

Burglars broke into the Green Gable Children’s Center in the 5600 block of South Pittsburg sometime between 7:30 p.m. Aug. 5 and 6 a.m. the following day.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to the day care after an employee discovered one of the doors had been pried open and the lock snapped.

The contents of a yellow purse belonging to an employee had been dumped on a table, but nothing was taken, deputies said.

The intruders ransacked the office and rummaged through desks and cabinets.

A telephone was taken, along with two TV-VCR combination units, said deputies.

No value was given on the items.

Deputies recovered some fingerprints, but there are no suspects at this time.

Two-way radio left behind

Sheriff’s deputies recovered a suspect’s two-way radio in the driveway of a home that had been broken into, but nothing was taken, deputies said.

The burglary occurred in the 7300 block of South Hatch Road sometime between 10 a.m. Aug. 5 and 5 a.m. the following day.

Deputies said the suspect may have had a partner who was carrying a second radio.

“The radio is probably used to alert a partner that someone’s coming,” said sheriff’s spokesman Dave Reagan.

“We’ve had some similar burglaries in the city, but now they’re showing up into the county.”
