Get A Hunch, Bet A Bunch

Playfair launches its fall and summer season this evening with well stocked fields, a surprisingly large and talented jockey colony and a bang-up Inaugural Handicap. In the latter, Che Meza, the best sprinter hereabouts, takes on some solid Emerald Downs invaders, including super-sharp Dunraven Pass and Esperit De Bogen, who loved this course in 1995.

Horses with decent current form usually outrun those coming off layoffs, even though the latter may outclass them in the long run.

During the winter meet, the original $2,000 dwindled to $1,456, with a lot of ‘help’ from Che Meza, who won the Playfair Mile in a photo at the expense of Soapy, who looked like the best bet of the meet.

Here are today’s selections:

FIRST: $2 daily doubles pairing first three picks with SUNNYMEDE GUY and DANGER DAVE in the second ($12).

FOURTH: $20 to win on CREATED EQUAL, $5 quinella pairing him with SANDY BEACH.

FIFTH: $20 to win on JUDGE ME WILD. Split any winnings between ONE MISTY MORNING in the sixth and DUNRAVEN PASS in the eighth.

SEVENTH: $5 quinella pairing SIR TIGER K. and SEA PIRATE.

Original bankroll: $2,000.

Present bankroll: $2,000.
