Raymond Weikel Bayview, Idaho

Memorial service for Raymond Weikel, 84, will be held at 11 a.m. today at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. A reception will follow at the Hayden Chapel and Gathering Center. Burial of the urn will be at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Weikel, who was born in Dillon, Mont., died Thursday.

He graduated from high school in Missoula and then worked for the railroad.

Mr. Weikel later moved to the Silver Valley and worked for the Bunker Hill and Hecla Mining companies, retiring in 1974.

He moved to Bayview in 1975.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Leola; a son, Gary Weikel of Bayview; three brothers, Robert, Glen and Luther Weikel, all of Montana; three grandchildren, Cory, Kelle and Rona; and five great-grandchildren.

John Rindal Edwall, Wash.

Graveside service for John Rindal, 67, is set for 1 p.m. today at Edwall Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Wash., is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Rindal, who was born in Lewistown, Mont., died Wednesday.

He was a heavy equipment operator in the construction business.

In 1948 he married Joyce Willis in Basin, Wyo. They lived in Sandpoint for several years before moving to Edwall in 1991.

He was a member of the Newport Eagles Lodge No. 4071 and the the Operating Engineers Union.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Charles Rindal of Spokane and James Rindal of Newman Lake; five daughters, Sandra Townsend and Barbara Eamch, both of Deer Park, Kristi Rindal of Spokane, Johnetta Hess of Seattle, and Michelle Palk of Cheney; his father, Olaf Rindal of Lewistown; three brothers, Ralph Rindal of Lewistown, Robert Rindal of Billings, Mont., and Dan Rindal of Roy, Mont.; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Raymond Chambers Coeur d’Alene

Service for Raymond W. Chambers, 78, will be at 1 p.m. today at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Chambers, who was born in Valleyford, died Thursday.

He had lived in Harrison, Idaho, before serving with the Army during World War II. He was a prisoner of war for five years after being captured at the fall of Corregidor.

Mr. Chambers moved to Coeur d’Alene after his military service and was a cabinetmaker at Tapley Cabinets for 16 years.

He later owned cabinet shop in Hayden Lake and also worked at A-1 Cabinets in Spokane for five years.

Mr. Chambers retired in 1974 due to health reasons.

He was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Eagles Lodge, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Maxine; two sons, Ray Chambers of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Douglas Chambers of Wenatchee; a daughter, Judy Doney of Post Falls; a brother, Bernard Chambers, and a sister, Beatrice Schmidt, both of Oregon; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Roy Engle Spokane

Service for Roy H. Engle, 85, will be at 1 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Born in Marlin, Wash., Mr. Engle died Thursday.

He graduated in 1929 from Marlin High School and in 1930 married Arberta Hatley in Moscow, Idaho.

Mr. Engle worked as a manager at the General Store for 20 years, retiring in 1975.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Roy Engle of Opelika, Ala., Earl Engle of Yakima, and Dwayne and Bobbie Engle, both of Spokane; six daughters, Linda Barry of Spokane, Mary Miller of Salmon, Idaho, Judy Sciuchetti of Mead, Roberta Dunham of Colville, Wash., Cindy Barline of Elk and Dona Blocher of Airway Heights; four brothers, Don Engle of Sagle, Idaho, Jim Engle of Eugene, Ore., Bob Engle of Spokane and Charles Engle of Wenatchee; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Martha Hitt Coeur d’Alene

Service for Martha Hitt, 75, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Burley (Idaho) Methodist Church. Burial will be in Malta, Idaho. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hitt, who was born in Nebraska, died Friday.

She moved to Malta in 1943 and was a farmer, rancher and raised race horses.

Mrs. Hitt worked at several Malta area cafes and also for Ore-Ida Foods in Burley.

Her husband, Grant, died in 1980.

Survivors include a daughter, Julie Kress of Coeur d’Alene; two sons, Howard Hitt of Burley and Dick Hitt of Seattle; three sisters, Edith Schenck of Wyoming, Betty Rowjeski of Nebraska and Maxine Smith of Arkansas; a brother, Richard Jameson of Vaughn, Wash.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Smith Spokane

Memorial service for Kenneth H. Smith, 72, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. There will be private inurnment.

Born in Phoenix, Ariz., Mr. Smith died Thursday.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

He was a 50-year Spokane resident and was a dental technician and ceramist.

His memberships included the Garden Club, Spokane Rifle Club, Spokane Camera Club and Photographic Society of America.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Betty; four daughters, Deidre Ochoa and Cindy Duncan, both of Spokane, Jeannette Van Tassel of Oregon, and Gayle McLamb of North Carolina; his stepfather, Ray Hanrahan of Spokane; a sister, Gail Woosley of Oregon; a stepsister, Anna Mae Hoke of Spokane; and 13 grandchildren.

Judith (Thompson) Crawford Veradale

Memorial service for Judith Evelynn Louise (Thompson) Crawford, 51, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Crawford, who died Thursday, was born in Bozeman, Mont.

She was a 1964 graduate of Coeur d’Alene High School and a 1966 graduate of Lyle’s Beauty School in Coeur d’Alene.

She worked as a hairdresser, most recently at the South Hill Super Cuts.

Mrs. Crawford was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Spokane Eagles Lilac City Drill Team and the Valley Elks.

Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Charles; two sons, Christopher and Richard Crawford, both of Spokane; her parents, Howard and Rae Mary Thompson of Spokane; and two sisters, Dawn Morrow and Robyn Robles both, of Spokane.

Dale Flake Spokane

No service will be held for Dale L. Flake, 72, at his request. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Flake, who was born in Bellingham, died Tuesday.

He graduated from Bellingham High School and served in the Navy during World War II.

He married Shirley Brokaw in 1947.

Mr. Flake was a journeyman auto mechanic until he graduated from Western Washington University in 1967. He taught auto mechanics at Skagit Valley Community College in Mount Vernon until 1974, then at Rhein-Main Air Force Base in West Germany for Big Bend Community College.

In 1979 he moved to Spokane and taught auto mechanics at Spokane Community College until his retirement in 1986.

Mr. Flake was featured in Spokane Public Televisions Northwest Profile for his waterfowl woodcarvings.

He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Claudia Manning of San Diego, Shelley Hayes of Bremerton and Barbara Danklefs of Spokane; a son, Dennis Flake of South Lake Tahoe, Nev.; his mother, Pearle Flake of Mount Vernon, Wash.; a sister, Donna Berg of Mount Vernon; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
