Mead’s Vaughn Takes Leave Of Absence From Coaching

Mead High baseball coach Dave Vaughn, fresh from winning his second Greater Spokane League title, has taken a leave of absence from coaching.

“Right now (coaching is) just too much of a sacrifice,” said Vaughn, who has four children. “These are the (parental) years you just don’t get back.”

Vaughn left open a chance of returning. Mead plans to name an interim coach early in the school year. Vaughn said the school has three or four good candidates.

Vaughn was 42-22 in four years as the Panthers’ head coach. His overall record, in 14 years, including Whitworth College and the Mead JV, is 243-105.
