Former Bot Member To Join Wwp Board

From Staff And Wire Reports

A South African native with extensive experience in commodities trading has been added to the board of Washington Water Power Co.

Bobby Schmidt, 56, will stand for election at the Spokane utility’s 1998 annual shareholders meeting.

Schmidt is a former member of the Chicago Board of Trade and remains president of his own company, Schmidt Trading. While with the BOT, he was also associated with Refco, the world’s largest commodity trading company, and was a partner in Refco Capital.

He spent 15 years with the Carson Pirie Scott department store, rising to chief financial officer. He also acted as an adviser to the Illinois state Legislature.

Schmidt owned a South Carolina development and a water company before selling those assets in 1994 and 1995, respectively.

WWP Chairman Paul Redmond said Schmidt’s commodities background will help the company position itself for the deregulation of energy markets.
