Sex Offender Gets 10 Years In Exposure Case Police Say Krahmer Is A Suspect In Other Crimes Against Children

A man who admitted he exposed himself to a girl has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

First District Court Judge James Judd ordered the prison term Thursday despite a request from Timothy Krahmer’s attorney that his client be given sex offender treatment. Deputy Public Defender Lynn Nelson also argued against a fixed sentence.

“He would like to find out why Timothy Krahmer does the things Timothy Krahmer does,” Nelson said.

Judd granted neither request, but told Kramer he would reconsider ordering the 23-year-old Careywood man to complete a six-month sex offender evaluation program if a charge of statutory rape against him is resolved in a timely manner.

Krahmer was arrested June 18 on the Bonner County charge at the Kootenai County Jail. He has been in jail since his March arrest for exposing himself and touching a 14-yearold Lake City High School girl on the leg after offering to give her a ride home.

Before going to prison, Krahmer likely will be sent to Bonner County to face the statutory rape charge there. Details of that case were not available.

Krahmer also faces a misdemeanor charge of enticing a child in Coeur d’Alene. Nelson said his client denies involvement in that incident.

On Thursday, Krahmer apologized to the high school student and her mother, who listened somberly in court, before Judd sentenced him to prison. Krahmer previously pleaded guilty to assault with intend to commit lewd conduct with a child.

“It’s obvious … that there are some issues that I need to deal with,” Krahmer said.

Chief Deputy Prosecutor Lansing Haynes said Krahmer poses a risk to the community and asked Judd to make “protection of society the primary goal of sentencing.”

Two other children identified Krahmer as the man who tried to lure them into his car. Krahmer has not been charged in connection with those incidents.

A Coeur d’Alene boy reported a man offered him candy to get inside of his car near Sorensen Elementary School. The boy refused and the man drove away.

In January, a 9-year-old girl selling candy bars door-to-door told police two men in a car stopped and asked her if she needed a ride home. The girl ran to a nearby house.

“When you start adding all those things together you have a frightening picture,” Haynes said.

In a pre-sentencing report, Coeur d’Alene police Sgt. Chuck Fritz called a Krahmer sex predator.
