The Salt Lake Organizing Committee picked it’s own chairman, Frank Joklik, to replace former president and chief executive Tom Welch, who resigned last month after being charged with domestic violence.

Security was tightened in generally relaxed Sweden in the wake of a second bombing of a stadium involved in the country’s bid to stage the 2004 Olympics. No one was injured in the Monday blast at New Ullevi Stadium in Goteborg, 250 miles southwest of Stockholm. No arrests have been made and no claim of responsibility has been issued.

Veteran broadcaster Pat O’Brien is leaving CBS Sports to become co-host of NBC’s syndicated entertainment magazine “Access Hollywood.”

The St. Louis Blues acquired defenseman Steve Duchesne from the Ottawa Senators for defenseman Igor Kravchuk.

Danny Walker, a point guard at Southern Cal last season, has transferred to New Mexico State. Walker played in 16 games last season, averaging five points and 1.5 assists per game.

A 15-year-old Texas boy, who played in last week’s Babe Ruth World Series in Longview, Wash., has died from injuries sustained on Saturday when his bicycle crashed into a pickup truck. Chad Richard died Monday in a Portland hospital.
