Standoff With Police Ends With Suicide

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 10-hour standoff ended early Saturday morning after a man, who barricaded himself in his house with as many as 15 guns, shot himself to death, Pierce County sheriff’s officers said.

The 37-year-old man, whose identity was not released, was apparently upset that his estranged wife was moving out of their house, sheriff’s Deputy Ed Troyer said.

The man apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, Troyer said.

A Tacoma police SWAT team member was fatally shot Thursday in a similar situation.

Troyer said the same members of the sheriff’s SWAT team Saturday morning were backup in the Tacoma standoff.
