Compiled From Wire Services

Helen Dobson, Dana Dormann and Sherri Steinhauer shot 7-under-par 65s to share the first-round lead in the LPGA tour’s Rail Classic at Springfield, Ill.

Tina Barrett was one back after a 66, while Nancy Lopez opened with a 68. Defending champion Michelle McGann shot a 69.

Bob Duval, who got a spot in the Pittsburgh Senior Classic when Orville Moody fractured a wrist, shot a 4-under-par 68 to take the second-round lead in the Senior PGA Tour event at Midway, Pa.

Duval, the father of PGA Tour player David Duval, had an 8-under 136 total on the hilly Quicksilver Golf Club course. Tom Wargo (68), David Graham (68) and John Jacobs (70) were two back at 138.

Fulton Allem last took a lead into the final round of a golf tournament in 1993, which is better than David Sutherland, his co-leader at the Greater Milwaukee Open in Brown Deer, Wis.

Sutherland was at the front of the pack for the first time in his career going into today’s final round.

Allem shot a 7-under-par 64 for a three-round total of 200. Sutherland also was at 13-under after firing a 65.
