Medical Lake’s Patrick Kohl Receives Scholarship To Wwu

Patrick Kohl, son of Brian and Susan Kohl of Medical Lake, received a $2,500 scholarship to attend Western Washington University. He is a senior majoring in mathematics, with a 3.94 grade-point-average.

Gianna Hammer, a 1995 graduate of Ferris High School, received a $1,000 Ethnic Minority Scholarship from Eastern Washington University, where she is studying biology.

Hammer is secretary of the Black Student Union and a member of Phi Eta Sigma national freshman honor society.

She is the daughter of Aida Fraser-Hammer and Neil Hammer of Spokane.

Christopher Cowgill, Spokane, was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at the University of Washington. He is the son of Ed Cowgill and Bernice Scott of Spokane.

Michael Steinman, a 1993 graduate of Mead High School, has been accepted into the Professional Pharmacy Program at The University of Montana.

Elizabeth Maas, a 1997 Ferris High School graduate, received a four-year ROTC Scholarship with the Air Force to attend Arizona State University where she will study chemical engineering.

She is the daughter of Linda and Milt Maas.

Rick Petry, Spokane, was named to the dean’s list at Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minn., last spring. Petry is a graduate of Eastern Washington University.

Mark Watson, a junior at Ferris High School, was one of 60 students nationwide to receive the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Scholarship to study in Germany this year.

Watson is an honor roll student at Ferris and a member of the German Club and Science Olympiad.
