Search Suspended For Man Missing From Capsized Boat

The search was suspended Sunday for a man who disappeared when a 52-foot crabbing vessel capsized in rough seas near here, killing a woman.

Two Coast Guard helicopters and one motorized lifeboat searched waters just off Westport for Ronald James Tarabochia from first light until about 4 p.m. when the search was called off, said Lt. Matt Duben in Astoria, Ore.

Weather conditions were a little better Sunday than they were when the Jolly Roger capsized and sank under 20-foot swells and 30-knot winds, Duben said.

The Coast Guard in Westport received a distress signal about 7:30 p.m. Saturday from the vessel, which was about three miles due west of the entrance to Grays Harbor.

A 37-year-old woman, Marilyn Tarabochia, was rescued but pronounced dead on arrival at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, Wash., Duben said.

A third crew member, David Frank, 21, was treated for hypothermia and released from the hospital.

The Tarabochias and Frank were from Cathlamet, Wash., a Wahkiakum County town on the Columbia River about 50 miles southeast of Westport.

Marilyn Tarabochia and Frank both were wearing survival suits when they were rescued, Duben said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
