A shooting range in the Stump Creek rock pit is temporarily closed because of logging.
The rock pit is located on the south side of Forest Service Road 437. The area also is used by all-terrain vehicle enthusiasts.
However, the area is being used as a log deck and as a service and landing site for a helicopter, said Susan Matthews, ranger for the Coeur d’Alene River Ranger District.
The closure coincides with the reopening of the Fernan shooting range, which has been closed for the past few weeks as a safety precaution during logging operations in the area.
