Teamsters Take No Position On Carey

Compiled From Wire Services

Teamsters President Ron Carey got a better opening to challenge evidence against him as the union’s executive board referred allegations against him for an independent hearing.

The action Wednesday means that the board took no position on the accusations that could lead to Carey’s expulsion from the union and leaves his fate to a threemember, court-appointed review board.

Carey has maintained his innocence despite two separate findings against him and has already appealed one of the findings - the decision barring him from running for re-election.
