Family Service Gets You Ready For Christmas

Call it the calm before the storm.

Church activities this week are at a minimum, as most churches gear up for the hustle and bustle of Christmas week.

That makes this a great time to take advantage of the lull by preparing yourself for the holiday as well, lest you turn into the Grinch.

A good way to get into the holiday spirit is the “Hanging of the Greens” service at 6:30 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway.

The family-oriented service will include the stories and meanings of many Christmas traditions. Those attending the service will also be invited to help decorate the sanctuary and the church’s Christmas tree, with a little caroling thrown in. Cookies and punch will be served following the service.

For more information, call the church office at 928-7733.

Fezziwig fiddle party

Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines, will host a Fezziwig fiddle party and barn dance on Wednesday.

Fezziwig, a character from Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” was Scrooge’s lighthearted boss.

The evening will begin with a free soup dinner at 6 p.m.

Those attending the dinner are asked to bring cookies to share. The dancing and fiddling are set to begin at 7 p.m., along with other fun activities for the family.

For more information, call the church office at 924-9750.

Sunday school Christmas program

Foothills Community Church, 11102 N. Forker Road, will present the musical “Bethlehem Project” next Saturday and Sunday at 6:30 p.m.

The musical will be performed by the Sunday school children. The performances are free and all are invited to attend.

Sunday’s performance will take place during a worship service.
