Liberty Lake Park-And-Ride Opening Behind Albertson’s

Spokane Transit Authority will open its new Liberty Lake park-and-ride on Wednesday.

The new 165-vehicle STA lot is behind the Albertson’s grocery store on Liberty Lake Drive, about one-half mile southeast of the existing park-and-ride north of Interstate 90 on Harvard Road, which it replaces.

The paved and landscaped area has loading zones for four buses, rest rooms, waiting shelters and an emergency phone. It has van and carpool spaces and disabled-access parking. STA also has installed bicycle racks and lockers.

Construction began in August on the new $1.2 million facility and was completed this week.

“One reason we chose the Liberty Lake location is the growing community and industrial area,” STA planning manager Christine Fueston said.

The state Department of Transportation owns the site of the old gravel lot on Harvard Road. That land will more than likely be part of the future realining of the I-90 interchange, Fueston said.

Buses will continue to transport riders from Liberty Lake to downtown Spokane and back.

The first bus leaves Liberty Lake at 5:30 a.m. Service continues until 7 p.m. Buses arrive every 30 minutes during peak hours and hourly the rest of the day.

A sign will be posted for six months at the Harvard Road lot to let riders know the STA pick-up and drop site has moved.
