At Least 14 Killed In Towering Inferno

Compiled From Wire Services

Workers trapped in a burning office tower of Indonesia’s central bank yelled for help and waved red cloths Monday as flames gutted the building’s top three floors, killing at least 14 people.

Faulty electrical wiring may have caused the fire in the new 25-story Bank Indonesia building in central Jakarta, a fire official said.

Some of the victims died of smoke inhalation and others were badly burned. About 200 people were evacuated down smoke-filled stairs, and a police helicopter rescued four people from the roof.
