Challenge Of Odessa Mayor’s Voter Registration Is Tossed Out

A new challenge of Odessa Mayor Denny McDaniel’s voter registration has been rejected as moot.

“I have a non-issue here. and I can no longer support spending taxpayer dollars - and it is very expensive - to pursue a moot point,” Lincoln County Auditor Shelly Johnston said Tuesday.

Johnston said she received an address change on McDaniel’s voter registration on the same day, Dec. 2, that three town councilmen and another resident filed a second challenge.

County officials ruled last month that McDaniel doesn’t live in Spokane County as the challengers alleged in arguing he should be ineligible to serve as mayor. Testimony in that hearing showed McDaniel lived at Airway Heights for 1-1/2 years before re-establishing residency in Odessa.

Testimony also showed McDaniel no longer lives at the address in Odessa where he is registered, so his critics filed a new challenge on that basis. , DataTimes
