Baseball Finds New Independent Arbitrator
Cornell professor Dana Eischen has agreed to be baseball’s independent arbitrator, replacing Nicholas Zumas, who was fired by players and owners.
Eischen, born in 1944, is a graduate of LeMoyne College, has a master’s degree from Cornell and a law degree from Georgetown.
His first case may involve Andy Benes. The pitcher agreed to a $30 million, five-year contract early Monday but management’s Player Relations Committee said the deal was invalid because it came after Sunday’s midnight EST deadline.
The players association has threatened to file a grievance to have the agreement upheld.
