Coaches Honor Ewu’s Exner

Eastern Washington University junior Kim Exner has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-District 8 team.

Exner a junior middle blocker from Vernon, British Columbia, is the Eagles’ all-time leader in total kills with 1,299. She was key in the Eagles’ 22-6 season, which earned them the Big Sky Conference co-championship. The award makes Exner eligible for All-American consideration. The All-Americans will be announced next week.

Exner also was named co-MVP in the Big Sky.

Others named to the District 8 team were Makare Desilets of Washington; Kim Coleman and Kara Milling of UCLA; Jennifer Kessy and Jasmina Marinkovic of USC; Kristin Folkl, Lisa Sharpley and Kerri Walsh of Stanford; LaManda Mounts of San Diego; Sarah Noriega of Loyola Marymount; and Nicole Sanderson of Pepperdine. It was the fourth year Folkl was named to the team.

Stanford coach Don Shaw was named district coach of the year.

Notre Dame outside hitter Jaimie Lee of Spokane was named to the District 2 team for the third time.
