Judge To Receive 1998 Goldmark Award

From Staff Reports

Spokane County Superior Court Judge Paul Bastine will receive the 1998 Goldmark Award.

The annual award goes to an official or attorney making outstanding efforts to ensure equal access to justice in Washington state.

The Legal Foundation of Washington chooses each year’s winner from nominees presented by people in the legal system. The award is named after Charles Goldmark, a Seattle attorney killed in 1985.

Bastine, 58, has been a Superior Court judge for two years, having served previously as a private attorney and deputy county prosecutor.

Among his contributions was working with state officials to ensure legal assistance to low-income residents when federal aid programs drastically cut that service in the 1980s.

Bastine will receive the award during a Jan. 23 luncheon in Seattle. , DataTimes
