Man Shot Over Rights To Harvest Wild Shrub

From Staff And Wire Reports

A man was shot to death in a dispute over harvesting rights for shrubbery, the Grays Harbor County sheriff said.

A group of six to eight men from El Salvador were harvesting salal Thursday from woods north of Hoquiam when two other men and a woman confronted them.

One pulled a gun and shot the victim in the head. Jose Flores Menjivar, 22, was declared dead at Grays Harbor Community Hospital.

A 26-year-old man has been booked for investigation of homicide.

Salal is used by florist shops in flower displays.
