Esther Bitterman Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Esther Bitterman, 82, is planned for Monday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Bitterman, who was born in Sterling, Colo., died Thursday.

She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1935 from South Dakota and had worked as a housekeeper in the hospital and hospitality industries.

Ms. Bitterman was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a son, Richard Bitterman of Rathdrum, Idaho; a daughter, Darlene Napier of Coeur d’Alene; two brothers, Bill Dick of South Dakota and Vernon Dick of Casper, Wyo.; a sister, Freida Painter of Colorado; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pat Sevier Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Pat Sevier, 76, will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home. Mrs. Sevier, who was born in Pomona, Calif., died Wednesday.

She was raised in Burbank, Calif., and was a foster mother.

Mrs. Sevier moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1986.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George earlier this year.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Anderson of Post Falls and Terri Movius of California; a brother, Clifford Shields of California; two granddaughters, Kelly and Kristin; and one great-granddaughter, Katie.

Virginia Sullivan Sandpoint

Visitation for Virginia Sullivan, 79, will be held today from 1 to 2 p.m. at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home. Service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sullivan, who was born in Chicago, died Wednesday.

She grew up in Chicago before living in Florida.

Mrs. Sullivan moved to California, where she lived until moving to Sandpoint in 1971.

She moved to Alaska in 1989 and returned to Sandpoint in 1995. She joined the Bonner General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and also worked as a hospital volunteer.

Mrs. Sullivan was a member of the Sandpoint Christian Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Eugene.

Survivors include a son, William Sullivan of Sandpoint; a daughter, Janet Rhoten of Alaska; a sister, Edith Siemssen of California; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

John Shelton Sr. Spokane

Private cremation for John G. Shelton Sr., 66, will be held. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Shelton, who was born in Troy, N.Y., died Tuesday.

He served in the Air Force from 1947 to 1951 and was stationed at Geiger Field as a mechanic.

Mr. Shelton returned to Albany, N.Y., where he joined the police department.

He also lived in Germany for nine years, where he worked as a taxi driver.

Mr. Shelton moved to Tigard, Ore., and worked for the Police Department there.

After moving to Spokane, he dispatched for Spokane Ambulance and the police department. He also drove a taxi.

Mr. Shelton was a member of the Catholic faith.

He is survived by his wife of seven years, Pat; three sons, John Shelton Jr. of Spokane, Edwin Rogers of Chelan, Wash., and Jason Kramer of Tigard; four daughters, Joan Hoode of Elk, Wash., Cynthia and Michele Shelton, both of Spokane, and Bonnie Vinton of Twisp, Wash.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Betty O’Neill Seattle

Service for Betty J. O’Neill, 69, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Church in Spokane.

Mrs. O’Neill, who was born in Colfax, Wash., died Tuesday.

She had lived in Spokane for 45 years and was a homemaker. She moved to Seattle 10 years ago.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph; three sons, Mac O’Neill of Spokane, and Scott and Todd O’Neill, both of Seattle; a sister, Franny Mitchell of Twin Lakes, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews.

Emery Covington Elmer City, Wash.

Service for Emery M. Covington, 62, will be at noon today at the St. Philip Benize Catholic Church in Ford, Wash. Burial will follow at the Hubert Cemetery in Ford. Strate Funeral Home in Grand Coulee, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Covington, who was born in Worley, Idaho, died Wednesday.

He worked as an operating engineer throughout the Northwest.

He was a member of the Colville Confederated Tribes, the operating engineers local 370 and the Catholic church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; two daughters, Michelle Covington of Coulee Dam and Lliane Covington of Spokane; a son, Royce Covington of Mead; his father, Wilson Covington of Spokane; a sister, Bertha Covington-Lampley of Spokane; six brothers, R. Corkey, Leo, Earl, Mike, Truman and Vern Covington, and two grandchildren.

Glenn Clark Spokane

Graveside service for Glenn L. Clark, 69, is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Fairmount Memorial Park. Memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Clark, a 42-year Spokane resident, died Monday.

He was born in Weippe, Idaho, and served in the Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Clark was an elementary school principal for Spokane School District 81.

He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and the state and national levels of Elementary Principals Professional Association.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Margaret; a daughter, Stephanie Perreiah of Spokane; two brothers, H.T. Clark of Tucson, Ariz., and Buford Clark of San Diego; and three sisters, Melva Spurgeon and Ora Bartalamay, both of Spokane, and Opal Haptonstall of the Tri-Cities.

Memorial contributions may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church or Whitworth College.

Thelma Engrav Spokane

Visitation for Thelma G. Engrav, 85, will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Sunday at Heritage Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Riverside Memorial Park.

Ms. Engrav, who died Tuesday, was born in New England, N.D.

She worked in business administration and lived in Spokane for 60 years.

Survivors include two sisters, Frances Johnson of Spokane and Lila Kriz of Redmond, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gethsemane Lutheran School.

Vernon O’Farrell Sr. Cheney

Memorial service for Vernon L. O’Farrell Sr., 64, will be at 2 p.m. today at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. O’Farrell, who was born in St. Louis, died Wednesday.

He served in the Air Force for 20 years and retired as a chief master sergeant.

Mr. O’Farrell was a master Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Linda; three sons, Vernon O’Farrell Jr. of Spokane, and David and Paul Gulliford, both of San Diego; four daughters, Lynn O’Farrell of Sacramento, Calif., Tammy Grineau of Spokane, Sue Hillmer of Olympia and Doreen Glixman of Kirkland, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.

Elsie Bernard Spokane

Service for Elsie Evelyn Bernard, 68, is set for 2 p.m. Monday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Bernard, who was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, died Thursday.

She worked in the custodial department at Eastern Washington University for 18 years and retired in 1989.

Mrs. Bernard was a 47-year resident of Spokane.

Her husband of 37 years, Frank Bernard, died in 1990.

She is survived by a daughter, Denise Piukkula of Colbert; two sisters, Van Schwindt of North Burnaby, British Columbia and Frances Lewis of Squamish, British Columbia; a brother, Harry Mody of North Burnaby; and one granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Marvin Molitor Spokane

Memorial service for Marvin R. Molitor, 63, is set for 2 p.m. Monday at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Mr. Molitor, a 31-year Spokane, died Thursday.

He was born in Duluth, Minn., and served in the Army.

Mr. Molitor was an attendant counselor for the developmentally disabled.

Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Clouse of Vallejo, Calif., and Debbie Peterson of Spokane; a son, Roger Molitor of Spokane; two sisters, Shirley Schreck and Lillian Rosenholm, both of Duluth; three brothers, Gordon, Jerry and Kenneth Molitor, all of Duluth; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Spokane Humane Society.

Lela Jones Spokane

Graveside service for Lela Jones, 82, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Jones, a 35-year Spokane resident, died Wednesday.

She was born in Melborn, Ark., and was a homemaker.

Her husband, Goldman Jones, died in 1990.

Survivors include three daughters, Billie Thompson of Augusta, Ga., Mary Ferrill of Los Banos, Calif., and Janie Harrison of Los Angeles; three sons, Melvin Jones of Spokane, Willis Jones of Great Britain and James Jones of Huntsville, Ala.
