Ucla, Virginia Familiar With Status As Soccer Finalists
McKinley Tennyson scored off a rebound in the 11th minute of the third overtime Friday, giving UCLA a 1-0 victory over Indiana and a berth in Sunday’s NCAA soccer championship against Virginia.
The Bruins have won two national titles, the Cavaliers five.
Tennyson’s goal, his eighth of the season, came after Ryan Lee’s corner kick was stopped by Hoosiers midfielder Chris Klein. Tennyson collected the rebound and booted it high into the right corner.
Virginia beat Saint Louis 3-1 in the second game. Ben Olsen scored twice and Brian West set up one goal and scored about 10 minutes later for the Cavaliers, giving them their first berth in the championship since 1994.
UCLA stopped Indiana (23-1) in its bid to become the first unbeaten, untied team since 1974.
