Boise Hotshots Do In WSU High-Scoring Trio Helps Broncos Dominate Cougars

Associated Press

Forward Roberto Bergersen scored 24 points and Mike Hagman added 15, including two clutch 3-point field goals in the final 5:23, as Boise State beat Washington State 79-72 Saturday.

The Broncos (6-1) overcame a Washington State rally on the strength of Hagman’s 3-point shooting, erasing a 58-54 deficit to take a 62-58 lead.

Guard Shane Flanagan, who scored 19 points, added a pair of free throws with 4:42 remaining to increase the lead to 64-58 and Boise State held on for the victory.

Washington State (5-3) took only its second lead of the game, 55-54, with 6:43 remaining on a three-point play by forward Carlos Daniel. Forward Kojo Mensah-Bonsu followed with his own three-point play to give the Cougars a 58-54 lead.

Boise State forward Mike Tolman hit a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 58-56, and Hagman followed with his two 3-pointers to give the Broncos the lead for good.

Boise State played without regular starters Gerry Washington and Kejuan Woods, who were suspended for one game because of a fight during Wednesday’s game with Idaho State.

Washington State was led by Mensah-Bonsu with 21 points. Daniel added 14 points and 11 rebounds and Rodrigo de la Fuente scored 13 points for the Cougars.
